If so, we're looking for someone like you to join our team at APL!

 

We are seeking a Senior Engineering Manager (Group Supervisor) to lead a team of Instrument Engineers and Scientists in the design and development of space instrumentation in support of the Space Exploration Sector and APL.

 

As the Group Supervisor of the Space Instrumentation Group, you will...

  • Lead a team of 50+ that span a range of disciplines including optical, particle, systems, mechanical, thermal, and structural engineers and technicians. Responsibilities include ensuring adequate funding for staff and adequate staffing for instrument projects and studies in development, hiring and retention of staff, career development, and staff mentoring.
  • Develop and mentor future leaders including a team of section supervisors.
  • Manage overhead budgets and facilities/laboratories.
  • Be a liaison with other APL Space Exploration Sector science and engineering groups with respect to ongoing flight instrumentation and future projects.
  • Provide leadership and support of Space Exploration Sector proposal development efforts in response to Announcement of Opportunities and other new business opportunities with external sponsors.
  • Participate in the larger umbrella of Space Exploration Sector management and leadership teams.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications if you have...

 

  • A Bachelor's degree in an engineering or science discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • 15+ years of experience in the development of instrumentation or space flight products.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • A proven track record of managing technical staff members in an inclusive environment.
  • An active Secret security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

You will go above and beyond our minimum qualifications if you have...

 

  • A Master's or PhD degree in an engineering or science discipline.
  • Previous experience as an Engineering Manager.
  • The ability to obtain a Top Secret TS/SCI clearance.
