Essential Job Duties

The NC State University Plants for Human health Institute (PHHI) is an established Institute located on the NC Research Campus in Kannapolis, NC. The NC Research Campus was created to have all aspects of human health and nutrition in one place complimented by multiple state and private entities providing the academic and research resources. The PHHI currently houses researchers and staff from various departments including Horticulture Science, Food Bioprocessing and Nutrition Sciences, Plant and Microbial Sciences, Animal Science, Cooperative Extension, and NCARS.

Duties and Responsibilities
A postdoctoral research position is being recruited for in the Valacchi’s Lab at Plants for Human Health Institute (NCSU, Research Campus, Kannapolis, NC) for a highly motivated candidate to investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying the pathogenesis and progression of redox- and inflammatory-related conditions with particular focus on neurodevelopmental disorders such as Rett syndrome and autism. The use of nutritional strategies in animal models of these diseases will be also evaluated for their potential properties in counteracting the previously mentioned altered processes. The Postdoctoral Research Scholar is expected to excel in areas of neurodevelopmental disorders. Excellent skills in the domain of cell culture techniques, molecular biology, fibroblast isolation from human and mouse tissues are requested. Your tasks include, but are not limited, to design and execute experiments, analyze and interpret data on research projects, presenting data to seminar and conferences. The Postdoc is also expected to monitor student interns and lab personnel.

Other Work/Responsibilities

Design experiments, develop and perform in-vitro cell based assays. Interpret data and maintenance of detailed records of experimental observation. Experience working independently and with a team to prepare study-related documents. Train and supervise students and visiting scholars. Co-author publications, presentations, and grant applications.

Work Schedule

Mon-Fri, 8am-5pm

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

  • At least 3 years of relevant experience with a good record of scientific publications in the above-mentioned research fields (neurodevelopmental disorders) are required.
  • Applicants should have demonstrated scientific productivity, be able to design and execute scientific experiments independently, write manuscripts, prepare and submit competitive fellowship applications, and assist with grant writing.
