The Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability seeks an Associate Dean for External Education and Mobilization who will serve as a strategic leader tasked with oversight of two major areas within the Sustainability Accelerator – Global Network and Sustainability Academy (professional education).  This position will report to Executive Director of the Accelerator and have accountability for developing and executing a plan for accelerator based professional education as well as launch of a global network to mobilize school faculty, students and professional education alumni to participate in solution team work on various problem sets in the climate change arena.

The Sustainability Academy will offer programs and resources to students, faculty, postdoctoral fellows, mid-career fellows, current and aspiring policy makers, and corporate executives a framework to address sustainability challenges with the necessary breadth and depth needed for sound decision making. Through experiential programs and incremental pilot programs, such entrepreneurs will ultimately graduate into a network of experts and organizations, including businesses and nonprofits, who could provide stewardship beyond Stanford for launching on the journey toward global scale.

Your Responsibilities will include:  
•    Collaborate with the Dean, Executive Director and Faculty Council to set strategic priorities to achieve Accelerator objectives and key results.
•    Facilitate strategic planning and scaling of Accelerator efforts to build and mobilize the accelerator’s global network.
•    Establish and operate the Sustainability Academy including hiring academic and instructional staff, directing curriculum development and providing for cohort experiences that feed directly to the global network.
•    Devise and direct active management of the global network including outreach and communication of Accelerator projects, global challenge sets, and global climate information.
•    Lead the recruitment, development and deployment of the domain experts’ group, which is anticipated to grow over the next five years to over 50 people – staff, academic staff, domain experts.
•    Lead the development, implementation, administration, and evaluation of educational programs. Develop and nurture a strong and active network of Sustainability Academy alumni and accelerator domain experts.
•    Represent the Accelerator Education and Network program within the university and with the external community and organizational partners. Support relationship-development strategies. Partner with the communications team to develop external communications strategies.
•    Develop and oversee budgets; manage finances including monitoring, analyzing, forecasting, and reporting.
•    Develop professional education revenue model whose ROI will support the operating budget of the Accelerator; this budget is expected to grow to over $50M in five years

To be successful in this position, you will need: 

Bachelor’s degree and ten years of relevant experience in administrative and financial management, or combination of education and relevant experience.

•    Expert analytical and problem-solving skills.
•    Strong knowledge of industry standards, trends and/or regulatory requirements.
•    Subject matter expertise for area(s) of responsibility.
•    Advanced expertise in business and management computer applications and databases.
•    Broad understanding of information technology hardware and software infrastructure.
•    Ability to multi-task and manage deadlines.
•    Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to cultivate strong collaborative relationships with faculty and able to anticipate faculty needs.

•    Demonstrated expertise in managing professional education offerings and the degree of engagement needed to sustain alum.
•    Exceptional interpersonal, negotiation and political acumen skills. Able to influence people, solve problems, trouble shoot, think creatively and resolve conflicts.
•    Advanced financial expertise in, budget planning and financial forecasting.
•    Professionally comfortable operating globally and across a broad spectrum of socio-economic and governmental levels.
