Postdoctoral position in skeletal muscle spatial transcriptomics

Position Description:

Applications are sought for a postdoctoral fellow position in research groups of Ben Cosgrove and Iwijn De Vlaminck at Cornell University. This position will develop and apply novel spatial total RNA-sequencing technologies to study skeletal muscle regeneration and disease. Recent collaborative advances by the De Vlaminck and Cosgrove laboratories have developed new approaches for studying muscle regeneration (De Micheli et al, Cell Reports, 2020) and cardiac infection biology (Mantri et al, Nature Cardiovascular Research, 2022) at the single-cell level. Our labs have built novel technologies for spatial profiling of the total transcriptome through in situ polyadenylation to achieve unprecedented complexity and resolution of non-coding and viral RNA species (McKellar et al, Nature Biotechnology, 2022). Further, we have exploited single-cell and spatial transcriptomics analyses to generate large-scale data atlases of skeletal muscle regeneration to explore the spatial context of cell-cell communication (McKellar et al, Communications Biology, 2021).

This position will play a central role in several multi-PI collaborative projects with the goal of applying total transcriptomic profiling in single-cell and spatial workflows to study human and skeletal muscle development and disease pathogenesis. This work will entail genomic and transcriptomic technology development and application and a suite of bioinformatic data analyses. Applicants are not required to have expertise in all of these specific skills, but do need a familiarity with quantitative and/or computational aspects of biology. These research projects are supported by multiple grants from the National Institutes of Health and the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative. Supervisors will actively support the candidate’s applications for postdoctoral training fellowship, including internal training grant opportunities. This will be a one-year appointment, with annual extension possible based on satisfactory performance.

Required Qualifications: • PhD or equivalent degree completed by the start of the position • Training in biomedical science, molecular/cellular biology, biomedical engineering, computational biology, biophysics, or related disciplines • Experience in quantitative or computational biology

Application Materials Required: • Curriculum vitae • A short statement describing (i) your research experiences to date and (ii) your particular interests in and (iii) your qualifications related to this position (no more than 1 page in length) • Examples of your research publications as attachments (up to 3) • Contact information for academic references (up to 3)

Logistics: • Employer: Cornell University • Location: Ithaca, NY • Start Date: Immediately • Application Deadline: None, though applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled. • Length of Appointment: 1 year with potential for annual renewal with satisfactory performance • Time commitment: Full Time
