Job Description

Notre Dame International (NDI) is a division of the University of Notre Dame responsible for furthering the Universityís global strategy through Study Abroad, Global Engagement Programs, International Student and Scholar Affairs, and a newly created Global Innovation Team. NDIís twelve Global Gateways and Centers, located in ten countries, provide intellectual hubs for international, local, regional and transregional partnerships, faculty research and student programs. NDI also supports students, faculty, and staff in providing international travel safety training and resources for international travel.

The Director for Academic Strategy & Partnerships, as a core member of NDIís new Global Innovation Team, is responsible for providing direct support for the strategic growth of NDIís Gateway and Center programs, partnerships, and research to strengthen the Universityís overall internationalization. This position will work closely with the Universityís colleges, schools, and other divisions to discern from their faculty, staff and students what projects, programs, and initiatives should come into being through partnership with NDI, including its Global Gateways and Centers. This creative and strategic project development work will support advancing Notre Dameís growing demand for innovative international programs, partnerships and research. This position will play a key role in promoting collaboration and growth between the Colleges and Schools and the Global Gateways and Centers which will expand the universityís capacities and resources to develop innovative global programming, strengthened partnerships and impactful, collaborative research.

The Director for Academic Strategy & Partnerships reports to the Senior Assistant Provost for Internationalization, who leads NDIís academic strategy and global innovation team reporting to the Vice President & Associate Provost For Internationalization. This position is hybrid optional (up to two days remote work per week) and all will require occasional international travel.

Key responsibilities:
  • Advance NDís academic strategy for the internationalization of undergraduate, professional, and graduate student curriculum and programs
  • Work closely with divisions across the University to support the strategic growth of the international dimensions of their academic programming in connection with the Gateways and Centers
  • Support the academic strategic direction and priorities of the Gateways and Centers
  • Expand new and shared resources for the creation of new academic programs and strengthening of current ones
  • Support NDís overall strategic vision and priorities for internationalization
  • Work closely with the campus Executive Group, Global Leadership Team, Gateway, Center, and Campus staff to advance NDI strategic priorities for programs and research
  • Work with faculty and administrators across campus to increase connectivity to Gateways and Centers
  • Develop partnerships, both internal and external, in support of international, regional, and transregional programs and research
  • Assist in Increasing resources to support the strategic priorities for programs and research
  • Provide dynamic and collaborative energy and a strategic growth mindset
  • Demonstrate a commitment to ethical approaches to international engagement and cultural diversity

*Based on Notre Dame Human Resources titling guidelines, this is a Program Director with a working title of Director.


Minimum Qualifications

  • At least ten years of work experience with an institution of higher education or related organization and five years of work in academic administration
  • Masterís Degree
  • Proven success in academic administration, including demonstrated ability in navigating complexity in the development of mutual agreements to advance academic goals
  • Demonstrated level of global awareness and intercultural fluency
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with colleagues, partners, and stakeholders
  • Proven success in program development and implementation, including budget creation and management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong planning and organizational skills, including a keen attention to detail and the ability to juggle multiple projects and deadlines
  • Experience working outside the US, or working in an international capacity
  • A commitment to the University values of accountability, integrity, teamwork, leadership in excellence, leadership in mission

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree
  • Multi-lingual competencies
  • More than five years of higher education administration in a subject or field related to international studies, international affairs, or global education
  • Robust international experience with institutions and/or associations related to international studies
