This position is located at the J.J. Pickle Research Campus in North Austin.
Purpose
As a part of a large multi-disciplinary, integrated research project, the candidate will contribute to seismic and petrophysics-constrained quantitative reservoir characterization, prediction of faults, fractures, and quantitative rock properties to delineate reservoir(s) and determine reservoir storage capacity, and deliverability, with uncertainty estimates.
Responsibilities
- Process and interpret 3D seismic (pre-stack and post-stack) and wireline logs. Perform seismic inversion, multi-attribute-based interpretations, develop calibrated rock physics and petrophysical models, analyze pore pressure and various reservoir properties, and write professional-level codes/algorithms, with a focus on automated seismic and petrophysical interpretations. Integrate multiple seismic, petrophysical, geologic, and reservoir engineering datasets and interpretations.
- Publish quality research results in peer-reviewed publications and presentations.
- Participate in project meetings and professional society conferences.
Required Qualifications
Ph.D. in geophysics, petrophysics, geology or related field. Strong understanding and implementation of seismic inversion, attributes, rock physics, petrophysical modeling, and machine learning. Experience in seismic or petrophysical log data processing and interpretation. Ability to develop codes in MATLAB/Python/Julia, or other similar platforms. Excellent data management skills. Demonstrated report writing and publication skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and professional demeanor. Ability to work both independently and effectively in a large group. Ability to work collaboratively with multiple disciplines and experts, including geologists, geophysicists, petrophysicists, geomodelers, and reservoir engineers. Ph.D. must have been received within three years from date of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated experience in 3D seismic inversion, petrophysical analysis, reservoir characterization, advanced machine learning, and inter-well attribute analysis. Relevant peer-reviewed publications and expanded abstracts presented at SEG, EAGE, SPWLA, or similar conferences. Some experience in geostatistics and 3D rock property modeling. Experience in writing professional-level codes as well as working with industry-standard software.
Salary Range
$65,000 - $70,000
