Post Doc Job Description

Job description:

The post-doctoral research associatewill lead specific research pro jects in the Department of Pediatrics (Divisionof Medical Genetics). The research projects will focus on hepatic glycogenstorage diseases (GSDs) . The post doc will contribute to the understanding ofhepatic GSDs as we have ongoing retrospective and prospective clinical naturalhistory stud ies to better understand disease progression and clinical outcomesof patients diagnosed with a hepatic GSD. This post doc will collaborate withd ifferent research team members on other research projects and will use t heclinical knowledge to advance the science in GSDs. This post doc posit ionrequires a minimum two-year commitment and will consist of a hybrid w orkarrangement.

Requirements:

-         PhD, MD, MBBS, DSc , MD/PhD, or MBBS/DSc in arelevant field

-          Demonstration of conducting clinical re searchin the past (publications with first authorship and/or scientific/ medicalwriting in peer-reviewed medical journals, platform/poster presen tations inconferences/seminars) will be preferred

-         Previous experience in grant w riting will bepreferred

-         Previous experience with analyzing andinterpreting stati stical data will be preferred

-         Demonstrate following skills

o   Excellentcommunication skills and an ability to work well with others

o   Self-motivatedwith a strong work ethic

o   Detail-orientedand posses ses strong planning and organizational skills

o   Excellentwriting and problem-solving ski lls

Responsibilities:

-         Be involved in managing a nd storing clinical researchdata (data management) and analyzing data

-         Conduct sy stematic literature reviews,develop hypotheses, critically think, and br ainstorm new ideas with theresearch team

-          Regularly collaborate with multiple ex pertsat and outside of Duke, fellow post docs, and the rest of the clini cal researchteam

-         < /span>Communicate and present research findings atdivisional meeting s, international conferences, and patient education meetings

-         Publish research fi ndings in peer-reviewedjournals in the form of research articles: < /p>

o   Thiscandidate must be able to accurately translate research findings and relevantliterature to a target audience (such as clinicians, geneticists, and othermembers of the patient care team).

o   Musthave the knowledge of the authorship guidelines as pe r the ICMJE guidelines,and be able to follow through all the instruction under each journal’sauthorship guidelines for submitting an article

-         Must posses s the knowledge to use citationmanagers such as EndNote

-         Possess the know ledge of basic researchintegrity, values of ownership of a research proj ect, and follow timelines toachieve deliverables. Training on responsibl e conduct of research (RCR) and theCollaborative Institut ional Training Initiative (CITI Program) for conductingresearch will be provided at Duke.
