AV Network Design ProfessionalJob Description
Do you have a passion for technology and learning? Do you enjoy working with people and solving problems? Are you looking for an opportunity to work with an innovation-driven team that wants to invest in your growth and success? Do you value diversity, equity, and inclusion?
The Mendoza IT Educational Technology team is looking for our next AV Network Design Professional. AVoIP technologies such as Crestron NVX and Dante bring IT and AV closer together and this role has been revised to encourage innovation and AV/IT integration.
Consultation and communication skills will be needed to find the best ways to connect people and technology to engineer great experiences. This person will take ownership of the AV experience in our classrooms, event spaces, and collaboration spaces. They will apply strong knowledge of AV control systems, build on remote monitoring and control capabilities, and seek other enhancement opportunities in existing systems. For new or refreshed spaces, they will consult on and design AV systems that may implement new technologies to meet changing needs while maintaining reliability and ease of use.
Some of our key brands, technologies, or devices:
- Crestron (3-series DMPS in many spaces)
- NEC (Displays and Projectors)
- Shure (ULX and MXA)
- Vaddio (and other Legrand brands)
- DSPs (Mix of BiAmp, QSC, and Shure)
- HDBaseT
- AVoIP (Dante, NVX, more in the future)
- AV to USB Bridges (Multiple brands)
Examples of tasks may include:
- Testing, then deploying an update to our standard classroom Crestron program to add monitoring or metrics gathering functions
- Meeting with faculty to compile requirements for a new specialized classroom
- Advising on ADA considerations on a project to renovate an existing meeting space
- Collaborating with campus partners to test a new device, tool, or technology
- Troubleshooting an intermittent issue related to HDCP and lecture capture
- Updating asset records, then using them to compile a list of devices due for replacement
- Reviewing system documentation and preventative maintenance practices
- Connecting with colleagues from other schools as well as brand representatives at a conference to learn about emerging technologies
- Attending training and getting certifications from equipment manufacturers
Technology changes rapidly, so time and materials for professional development will be made available and continuous learning will be encouraged.
While the majority of the work for this role should be proactive or strategic, some operational support will be necessary. Items that are escalated for advanced support should be reviewed as opportunities for continuous improvement.
While this is a primarily in-person role, some regularly scheduled hybrid work time is possible. This role also involved occasional overnight travel when scheduled to support classes or events in Mendoza spaces in Chicago. (Generally Friday and Saturday every 6-8 weeks.)
