The Programs in Health Education and Community Health Education in the Department of Health and Behavior Studies seeks a full-time Lecturer who will also serve as the Fieldwork Coordinator. The Program in Community Health Education prepares students who graduate with the CEPH-accredited MS degree (MPH equivalent degree) for careers in public health and community health education. Our Health Education MA degree students are prepared for careers as health education specialists in a variety of community practice settings, including schools, healthcare and the workplace. And our EdD students are trained to engage in rigorous research and practice work in universities, hospitals, schools, non-profit organizations, and government systems. All of our graduates are prepared for leadership positions to promote health, prevent disease, advocate for policy change, improve social determinants of health and social structures, address disparities and structural racism, and advance health equity—regionally, nationally, and globally—through teaching, research and service.

 

Job Summary/Basic Function:

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be highly organized and have the education, background, and experience to effectively teach five graduate-level courses per year (typically, 3 courses in the fall and 2 courses in the spring) that each meet once per week. These courses include our fieldwork course for students in the MS Degree Program and other courses for students in our MA and EdD Degree Programs. Additional duties will include assisting in the review of program applicants, providing supervision for and leadership in identifying fieldwork sites for our MS student internships, advising and mentoring graduate students, connecting with our alumni and facilitating career placements for our graduates, working with the core program faculty in supporting other aspects of the program, and participating in the broader Department and College community. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate in health education, public health, a behavioral or social science (e.g. anthropology, psychology, or sociology), or a related field
  • Ability to function as a Fieldwork Coordinator who provides supervision to students and identifies community-based fieldwork settings
  • Ability to teach graduate-level courses, advise students, and work collaboratively with interdisciplinary faculty colleagues
  • Evidence of exceptional skills indicative of competence in evaluating and supervising the written work of graduate-level students; and outstanding oral and written communication skills for effective student engagement when teaching and advising
