OVERVIEW OF CCA
The Community College of Aurora serves our diverse community by providing high-quality instruction and support services to prepare students for transfer and employment. The Teaching and Learning Transformation Hub is a space of collaborative learning design for students, faculty/instructors, and other Academic Success personnel. The Hub integrates these three main areas of service in support of CCA's mission of serving our diverse population by providing high quality instruction and support services to prepare students for transfer and employment:
- Academic Learning Center
- Library Services
- Pedagogical Innovation and Exploration Lounge
The Executive Director establishes a solid connection to CCA's mission and embodies the institutional values of respect, collaboration, quality, access, diversity, and inclusion. The person in this position, under the supervision of the Dean of Academic Effectiveness and Instructional Support, leads, designs, and coordinates efforts and initiatives within the main areas of services aforementioned to close student gaps in success, persistence, and completion. These efforts and initiatives may come in the form of tutoring services; workshops on strategies and competencies tailored to different groups of learners; supports around information literacy and digital resources; projects that improve the experiences of our diverse learners in the academic environments; opportunities to explore and experiment with innovative and emerging pedagogical approaches; individualized professional development plans for individual faculty/instructors, staff, or departments as requested; diverse and responsive professional development programming on pedagogical trends and strategies that respond to academic needs; effective instructional onboarding; etc. and must always be rooted in collaborative, data-informed decision making.
Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills
- Lead the development of the Teaching and Learning Transformation Hub in collaboration with students, faculty/instructors, the Director of the Academic Learning Center, the Director of Library Services, department chairs and program directors, Academic Success Leadership, and representatives of other institutional divisions.
- Model and ensure a culture of respect, collaboration, quality, access, diversity and inclusion.
- Perform leadership and management responsibilities within the Hub, which includes providing guidance in support of CCA's mission, vision, and overarching initiatives; facilitating program assessments; identifying Hub's priorities in alignment with the college's strategic plan; assigning projects and tasks to the Director of the Academic Learning Center, the Director of Library Services, and other personnel as appropriate; supervising and evaluating direct reports' performance and addressing personnel matters according to the college guidelines and procedures; overseeing budgetary and fiscal processes and assigning procurement tasks appropriately; and ensuring the effective integration of the Hub within the fabric of the Academic Success division and the College.
- Operate within a framework of continuous improvement that includes a decision-making process based on quantitative and qualitative data and promising evidence-based practices and approaches; establishment of targets and goals that are realistic and support growth; tracking and measuring the impact of initiatives and programming; and designing and implementing necessary adjustment to strategies aimed at supporting instructional effectiveness and improved academic achievement.
- Partner with faculty/instructors, chairs and directors, and other division personnel to assess and identify professional development needs and interests.
- Design and facilitate programming that responds to pedagogy, andragogy, and heutagogy needs and interests.
- Collaborate with the Director of the Academic Learning Center and the Director of Library Services to create and expand effective academic support strategies that increase achievement for all students and support the expansion of their self-efficacy for learning and metacognitive competences.
- Plan, develop, and coordinate a first-year onboarding and mentoring program for faculty/instructors, including orientation and training for mentors.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the Academic Success division and across the college.
- Maintain currency of knowledge of promising evidence-based practices and approaches and emerging pedagogical trends and strategies that improve academic experiences for a diverse student population.
- Stay actively involved in local, state, and national professional organizations.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum qualifications & Requirements
- Master's degree in curriculum and instruction, higher education leadership or administration, education, training and development, or related field.
- Minimum three (3) years higher education classroom teaching experience.
- Application of quantitative and qualitative data analysis and data-informed decision-making processes.
- Experience designing and facilitating effective pedagogical professional development opportunities for faculty/instructors who serve a diverse student population.
- Experience utilizing academic student support services and/or overseeing academic student support services.
- Demonstrated understanding the diverse nature and needs of transfer and career and technical education programs offered by community colleges.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and sustain positive and effective relationships with a variety of stakeholders in a higher education setting.
- Excellent interpersonal, presentational, and written communication skills, and ability to lead and motivate groups.
- Ability to design and implement complex projects.
- Experience planning and managing budgets successfully.
- Leadership and supervisory experience.
- PhD in curriculum and instruction, higher education leadership or administration, education, training and development, or related field.
- Community College teaching experience.
- Vast experience designing and facilitating pedagogical professional development opportunities for faculty/instructors who serve a diverse student population.
- Extensive experience utilizing academic student support services and/or overseeing academic student support services.
- Professional experience in community colleges or serving a diverse student population.
- Professional experience in career and technical education programs and/or workforce development.
- Second-level supervisory experience.
- Grant writing experience.
- Experience with Achieving the Dream's Teaching and Learning Toolkit
Salary Range: Anticipated starting salary range: $90,000.00. This salary is determined by the qualifications of the selected candidate balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information. CCA offers an excellent benefit plan, including generous leave, holiday, and education benefits. Full time employees immediately upon hire earn 15 hours a month annual leave and 10 hours a month sick leave.
