Assistant Professor, Texas Institute for Restorative Neurotechnologies (TIRN) - Neurology, McGovern Medical School
Job Description
McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston , Department of Neurology , is seeking a computational geneticist with neuroscience expertise to join the Texas Institute for Restorative Neurotechnologies as a Research-Track Assistant Professor.
The prospective candidate would have the opportunity to participate in neuro-genetics initiatives, engage in field-leading research, and receive support to develop grants and collaborate and submit research findings for publication to advance the scientific knowledge of others. Research expertise/knowledge, demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications in neuro-genetics, neuroinformatics, epilepsy, and other neurological disorders is most preferred.
Position Key Accountabilities

Work independently and collaborate on research projects that will focus on developing and conducting quantitative and qualitative research in areas of clinical neuro-genetics and precision medicine-based risk counseling for neurological disorders

Participate in committees at the school and university levels, contribute to the broader community, and help enhance the curriculum for medical students, residents, fellows, and post-docs.

Mentor post-docs and graduate student research assistants in research and development activities.

Participate, develop, and increase the scope of collaborative and funded – program portfolio for the institution. Independent extramural funding is encouraged, but not required.

Assist UTHealth Houston's Chief Data Scientist in strategic planning, operational activities across schools, and inter-institution collaborations involving health data.
Qualifications:
- Doctorate Degree (Ph.D.) with 1 year of experience as a Research Associate or Postdoctoral Fellow beyond the terminal degree in related research environment with verifiable publications.
- History of participation in extramural research funding.
- Outstanding research, interpersonal and comunication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Expertise in using array- and sequencing-based bioinformatics methods in epilepsy.
- Background in neuro-genetics.
