Job Duties
MEMS Lab Director/Instructor – Jackson County Campus
1. Provide direction for the standing up of the program.

2. Make recommendations for and seek quotes for the purchase of equipment.

3. Have familiarity and working knowledge of the equipment used in microelectronic manufacturing, including, but not limited to: cleanrooms, automatic optical inspection systems, stencil print inspection systems, pick and place systems, reflow ovens, stencil printers, fusion laser systems, milling machines, ball grid array rework systems, CNC machines, PCB design software, oscilloscopes, test equipment for electronics, 3D printers, soldering irons, etc.

4. Organizing the lab, clean room and all lab equipment.

5. Assume responsibility for the upkeep of laboratory and classroom equipment and inventory in the program area and the inventory of the same.

6. Perform setup, operation, shutdown, and cleanup, on all equipment, materials, and tooling used in labs.

7. Provide overview and live demonstrations for interested candidates in program state officials, other institutions, interested students.

8. Teach classes as assigned, including, but not limited to foundational courses in electronics and other classes strongly related to microelectronic manufacturing careers.

9. Assume responsibility for good citizenship, respect for rights of others, respect for College property, and proper attitude.

10. Establish relationships with industry partners to attract advisory committee members and facilitate regular advisory committee meetings.

11. Attend college and school meetings as requested.

12. Provide for reasonable accessibility to students for conferences, advisement, or tutorial assistance. Full-time faculty refer to Statement No. 213. Part-time instructors are expected to be available at least one contact hour for each three hour credit course per week or the equivalent.

13. Provide advising for students as necessary.

14. Maintain adequate records.

15. Ensure instructional methodology and requirements are consistent with the College and respective departments.

16. Follow established policies and procedures to enhance instruction and contribute to the successful accomplishment of College goals, course objectives, student achievement, and professional development. The role of faculty members includes responsibility for the content, quality, and effectiveness of the curriculum at the state, institutional program, and course levels.

17. Serve as a public relations representative for the Community College system.

18. Supervise and participate in extracurricular activities as assigned by administrative staff.

19. As assigned, serve on college governance councils as described in the college Planning Manual.

20. Participate in college or state level academic/instructional committees as assigned.

21. Assist with campus-wide student recruitment and retention efforts.

22. Document college data needed for reporting purposes.

23. Perform other such duties and responsibilities as assigned by respective departments or college administration.

Job Description
General Statement of Function: The incumbent is responsible for the instructional program assigned, advising prospective and currently enrolled students in the program and reports to the Dean of Teaching and Learning or his designee. The incumbent is an integral part of and provides support for all functions of the Jackson County Campus.


Mandatory Qualifications
(M1) Associates degree in related field (electrical, mechanical, etc.). (M2) Experience with electronic manufacturing or design. (M3) Able to teach hands-on training classes in a laboratory on the college campus. (M4) Able to work with equipment with moving parts, electromagnets, hazardous chemicals, and equipment containing heating elements such as soldering irons, hot air stations, and reflow ovens that can be set as high as 350 °C. (M5) Ability to use computers for educational multimedia-based grading, lecturing, data storage, and media recording and archiving. (M6) Availability to work days, evening, weekends if needed.


Desirable Qualifications
(D1) Bachelors degree in related engineering field (electrical, mechanical, etc..). (D2) Familiarity with ABET accreditation, IPC solder certificates, SMTA, and working with NSF and NSF based grants. (D3) 1-3 years teaching in a higher education institution. (D4) Experience with Canvas or other learning management systems.
