Position Summary

A postdoctoral position is available to investigate neural mechanisms underlying decision making, feeding, and obesity in the Kravitz Laboratory at Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry. Techniques include in vivo electrophysiology, optogenetics, fiber photometry, calcium imaging, and behavioral analysis.   

The PI is committed to mentorship best practices and fosters a small but collaborative lab culture. The Washington University in St. Louis research community is highly collegial, including neuroscientists across many departments. The School of Medicine has many amenities in the form of core facilities and other research infrastructure. It is consistently ranked among the top medical schools in the nation. The community of postdoctoral trainees is supported through a dedicated Office of Postdoctoral Affairs and an active Postdoc Society to foster the social and career development of trainees. St. Louis is highly livable, with many low-cost, high-quality cultural amenities.
 

Projects will include studying neural processes that control decision making, feeding, and body weight regulation.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent terminal or doctoral degree.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D., M.D. or similar degree in neuroscience, physiology, pharmacology or related discipline.
  • Experience in cellular or in vivo electrophysiology, calcium imaging, and/or behavioral analysis is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively and show excellent critical thinking.
  • Strong published scholarly work.
  • Good communication skills.

Working Conditions

This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.

Salary Range

Base pay is commensurate with experience.
