Position Information
Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit | Founded in 1950, our Department of Maternal and Child Health is one of the world’s leading academic departments for research, teaching and practice. We are dedicated to improving the health of women, children and families – domestically and globally. Our teaching program provides students with broad exposure to maternal and child health population needs and priorities, as well as with the skills to become leaders of tomorrow. Currently the department has 31 faculty members, 20 of whom have primary appointments in Maternal and Child Health (MCH). Complementing these faculty are four emeritus members, and more than 65 adjunct faculty, many of whom hold leadership positions in MCH research and practice settings. Given the interdisciplinary nature of our department, faculty and staff research interests and activities span the full array of issues and areas of focus for the maternal and child health population. Our initiatives are designed to create new knowledge and directly improve the health of this population. |

Position Summary | This one year postdoctoral program will prepare the scholar for successful academic positions within the field of MCH. It enhances scholars’ proficiency in MCH research (including scientific publication), teaching (including curriculum development), conceptual knowledge, communication, and professionalism/leadership. Postdoctoral scholar will work with MCH faculty and an array of partners, including those from the Maternal and Child Health Bureau, state/local Title V agencies, and others. The postdoctoral scholar will be expected to publish 2 or more scientific publications each year. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements | Candidates who have completed or are close to completing doctoral training in varied disciplines are eligible to apply. Although candidates close to completing their doctoral work may apply, the doctoral work must be completed before actually beginning the postdoctoral program. Preference will be given to candidates with research oriented doctorates (e.g., PhD, DrPH, ScD) or clinical degrees (e.g., MD, DO, DDS), and those focusing on MCH work within the United States. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience | Candidates should have doctoral training in research methods, including quantitative data analysis. They should also have graduate training in substantive areas relevant to the health and well-being of women, children, and/or families. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience | Training/experience in statistical programs (such as SAS, SPSS or other programs), as well as word processing programs. |
