Postdoctoral Associate, Mammalian Synthetic Biology, Weiss Lab

Job Description

POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE, MAMMALIAN SYNTHETIC BIOLOGY, Biological Engineering-Synthetic Biology Center-Weiss Lab, to join an interdisciplinary academic research lab seeking to create integrated biological systems capable of autonomously performing useful tasks and elucidate the design principles underlying the engineering of complex cellular and tissue phenotypes. Will work with a team of researchers, principal investigators, and lab manager to participate in government- and corporate-sponsored research programs in the area of mammalian synthetic biology. These mammalian genetic circuits will sense cell state, including mRNA, miRNA, metabolites, etc., and implement feedback control and analog, digital, and “neural” logic functions that result in precise spatiotemporal responses such as transcription factors for differentiation, vascularization, cell-cell communication, etc. The project may involve creating virus-like particles (VLPs) by transfecting cells with viral structural proteins, designing sophisticated genetic circuits and assays, collecting data using state-of-the-art techniques (including flow cytometry, RT-qPCR, next-generation sequencing, ELISA, SDS-Page, Western immunoblots, and other analytic technologies), and using computational skills for working with cross-functional teams for data analysis.

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED:  Ph.D. in biological sciences, computer science, engineering, physics, math, or related field; experience in at least one of the following--mammalian cell culture, large-scale DNA assembly and characterization, genetic recombination technology, next-generation sequencing, computational methods and tools for analysis, and statistics; biological experience in molecular biology, protein engineering, immunology, and/or cell biology; ability to prioritize, perform multiple tasks, and execute detailed technical protocols meticulously; strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills; ability to work collaboratively and on individual projects in a dynamic, multidisciplinary, team-oriented setting; and ability to communicate effectively--both verbally and in writing--and make presentations to the scientific community through talks and publications.  Job #23065

Employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background check.
