The Fidler laboratory at the UCSF Mission Bay campus is seeking a Staff Research Associate to support studies center on understanding how dysfunctional hematopoiesis and immune cells affect cardiovascualr disease. These studies will primarily focus on animal models of atherosclerosis and thrombosis and will utilize techniques in molecular biology like RNA and protein analsysis as well as histological examination of tissue. The canidate will help support animal work, molecular biology techniques and histology. The canidate will also be expected to keep good lobaroatory records, help with lab management and place orders. This will require good communication skills and close work with the PI Dr. Fidler.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.
For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

The primary mission of the Cardiovascular Research Institute, the largest organized research unit on the San Francisco campus, is to promote fundamental and clinical research on the cardiovascular and pulmonary respiratory systems and to provide opportunities for postdoctoral training in these fields. With over 200 faculty, staff, and postdoctoral fellows, the CVRI supports faculty from a variety of departments (Medicine, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Lab Medicine, Pediatrics, Anatomy, Anesthesia, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Physiology, Cellular and Molecular Pharmacology). The total extramural funding is $34 million annually (direct and indirect costs), with $1M in indirect cost return, and $561K in State funds. Assets include $38 million in endowment income and gifts, $3M in clinical reserves, and $5.8M in opportunity funds.
- BA/BS in biology, chemistry, or a related science and knowledge of, or experience with, the basic techniques or methods required by the position; and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
- Basic knowledge of methods in molecular biology or biochemistry.
- BA/BS in biology, chemistry, or a related science and one or more years of recent, directly related work experience, utilizing the techniques or methods required by the position; and/or equivalent experience/training.
- Experience in molecular cloning methods and biochemistry at a major research institution
- Detail-oriented, meticulous, organized, and punctual
- Ability to work on a team, take initiative, solve problems, and communicate effectively
