DEPARTMENT: History and Social Sciences
REPORTS TO: Chair, History and Social Sciences

  • Full-Time Tenure Track Opportunity beginning in Fall 2024

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Supports student learning by providing quality instruction for sociology and other closely aligned, college-level courses for both majors and non-majors in multiple modalities at the introductory level and beyond.
  • Establishes clear course objectives; engaging class activities; effective presentations of learning materials; fair grading practices; timely responses to students; and a positive classroom atmosphere.
  • Handles a teaching load of fifteen (15) contact hours per semester. Related responsibilities include maintaining five (5) office hours per week for student advisement and tutoring, as well as participation in departmental, divisional, and College-wide activities.
  • Participates in curriculum development, review, and assessment.
 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree in a relevant discipline from an accredited program
  • College teaching experience
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ph.D. in Sociology or a relevant discipline from an accredited program
  • Community college teaching experience
  • Experience using diverse, student-centered instructional methods that address a variety of learning styles
  • Experience incorporating current digital technologies in both face-to-face and online pedagogies
  • Knowledge of the College’s Mission and Vision
  • Commitment to a culture of assessment and evidence-informed teaching
