Job Description:

The School of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences at Westchester Community College has a tenure-track opening for an Instructor of Spanish.  The position requires 15 contact hours plus a minimum of 5 office hours per week. The successful candidate can expect to teach classes in introductory, intermediate, and advanced Spanish, language, literature, and culture courses at the main campus and satellite locations in Westchester County.


Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate must possess a minimum of a Master's degree in Spanish or related field in Spanish Studies and a minimum of one year of experience.  Successful candidates must also be familiar with course management systems, and have experience with online, remote and in person classes.

All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  A PhD in Second Language Acquisition in Spanish or related field in Spanish Studies is preferred. Instructional technology and three (3) years of classroom teaching experience in introductory, intermediate, and advanced Spanish are also preferred.

POSITION EFFECTIVE:    Fall 2024

SALARY & BENEFITS:  The starting salary for this position is $66,144. Additional compensation with seniority steps maximize at a salary of $77,639.  Benefits include comprehensive health coverage, a choice of defined benefit and/or defined contribution pension plan, generous leave benefits, and access to tax sheltered annuities and a deferred compensation plan.
