Job Description:

The School of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences seeks a highly motivated and innovative full-time instructor to teach a variety of sociology courses.   In addition to a teaching load of 15 contact hours per semester and 5 office hours per week, faculty members are expected to actively participate in departmental, school, and college-wide committees and activities, as well as demonstrate continuous professional development and commitment to the college culture. 


Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum of a Master's degree in Sociology and one year of college teaching in Sociology is required. Demonstrated innovation and enthusiasm toward student-centered teaching and mastery of instructional technology.  Strong organizational and communication skills. Of special interest is a candidate with a background in social class and/or conflict theory who is willing to assist in assessing, reviewing, and developing the sociology offerings. All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: A Ph.D. in Sociology is strongly preferred.  Community College teaching experience in Sociology, at least five semesters of undergraduate 100 and 200-course-level teaching, and an interest in curriculum development are also preferred.

POSITION EFFECTIVE:  September 2024 

SALARY & BENEFITS:  The starting salary for this position is $66,144. Additional compensation with seniority steps maximize at a salary of $77,639. Benefits include comprehensive health coverage, a choice of defined benefit and/or defined contribution pension plan, generous leave benefits, and access to tax sheltered annuities and a deferred compensation plan.
