Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Maryland, College Park invites applications for a full-time Lecturer in our Chemistry and Biochemistry Programs. The Programs are responsible for the chemical and biochemical education of students in chemistry, biochemistry, biological sciences and engineering and have annual enrollments of more than 7000 students. Successful candidates must be outstanding teachers who have a strong commitment to undergraduate science education. Duties may include teaching undergraduate organic chemistry laboratory courses and general/organic chemistry lecture courses, advising undergraduate students, summer school instruction, K-12 outreach, and other instructional duties as required. Participation in course development and efforts to improve undergraduate education and broaden participation of students from diverse backgrounds is also expected.

This is a renewable 12-month, non-tenured professional-track faculty position with a history of continuity and an established promotion pathway. The start date is Fall 2024, with option to begin in Summer 2024.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
  • Ph.D. degree in chemistry, biochemistry or a closely related discipline,

Experience:
  • Teaching at the college/university level.

  • Familiarity with a web-based learning management system (e.g., Canvas).
  • Teaching high enrollment lecture and laboratory courses.
