Leidos is seeking a full-time Data Analyst/Health Statistician to support the Health and Behavioral Science Department at the Naval Health Research Center, San Diego, CA. The candidate will provide statistical and analytical support for research assessing Sailor's mental and behavior health, perceptions of cohesion and leadership, and their experiences with work-related stressors that may be unique to operational settings. The successful analyst will plan and perform statistical analyses for a research project with a complex study design; consult with team members to derive an in-depth understanding of the hypotheses and experimental approaches; exercise independent judgment in the resolution of analytical problems while working in a team environment, and assist in the development of grant proposals, recommendations, briefs, and other written products for dissemination.

The Analyst may travel to collect data in operational settings and present research findings to Navy leadership and the scientific community. This position is eligible for partial remote work but candidate MUST be local to the San Diego area as this position will be required to be on-site at the Naval Health Research Center at LEAST 3 days per week and as required for study requirements.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provides statistical guidance and support to the Principal Investigator and other team members.

  • Performs data manipulations and statistical analyses using SPSS, R, MPlus, and/or SAS. Conducts various types of analyses using logistic regression, analysis of variance, survival analysis, multilevel modeling, structural equation modeling, and other techniques as required.

  • Performs statistical analysis on longitudinal and/or cross-sectional data

  • Performs data manipulations and statistical analyses using surveys and military medical records to identify health trends.

  • Maintains meticulous records of data analysis procedures and findings.

  • Contributes to the team effort by accomplishing related duties as needed.

  • Contributes to the creation of written products including grants, publications for peer review, briefs, and conference presentations

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • PhD degree in statistics or relevant social science field (e.g., psychology, epidemiology, public health) with heavy quantitative focus and a minimum of 3 years of significant research experience with large, complex medical records

  • OR Masters degree in statistics or relevant social science field (e.g., psychology, epidemiology, public health) with heavy quantitative focus and a minimum of 5 years of significant research experience with large, complex medical records

  • Knowledge of statistics and SPSS, R and/or SAS programming.

  • Experience with manipulation of large datasets and databases.

  • Ability to develop and execute data analysis plans using survey data

  • Knowledge; analysis of variance, including repeated measures; logistic regression; survival analysis; multilevel modeling; structural equation modeling

  • Ability to be a self-starter and work independently as well as in a team. Ability to plan and prioritize work.

  • Due to federal contract restrictions, candidate must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain a Secret Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated familiarity with the Military Health System Data Repository and/or other large complex military databases

  • Knowledge of statistical techniques for handling missing and non-normal data.

  • Experience conducting a priori power analysis

  • Demonstrated experience preparing military research documents, including military data-sharing agreements and IRB protocols

  • Demonstrated ability to conceptualize and write complex documents such as project reports, technical reports, and manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication

Naval Health West - NHW

Pay Range:Pay Range $81,250.00 - $146,875.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline onlyand not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
