This position will be in support of the Extremity Trauma and Amputation Center of Excellence (EACE). The EACE works to advance medical and scientific knowledge through relevant research that will optimize clinical care and quality of life for Service members and Veterans with traumatic extremity injuries and amputations. We are looking for a new team member to assist with a study aimed at improving pain and function in Service members with low back pain.

HJF is seeking a Health Service Researcher to conduct health service research using medical records data sets and other large medical/health data sets, perform data analyses, evaluate, research results, and writes scientific reports or papers for presentation or publication. This position provides advice and consultation in health service research.

Responsibilities
    Participates in ongoing research projects and conducts the component in health services.
  • Performs literature review and identifies emerging topics and gaps in health service research on applicable subject matter.
  • Develops new research projects in health service using organization's resources to investigate and evaluate important health service issues on applicable subject matter, which will help identify more efficient and effective health services to beneficiaries.
  • Applies for funding in health service research using organization's resources.
  • Advises and guides research assistants/associates in health service research.
  • Conducts data analysis, evaluates research results, and writes scientific reports for presentation and publication.
  • Provides expertise in health service research for various research projects and gives consultation in study design, data analysis, and results interpretation related to health service research.
  • Assists in collaboration with researchers in other programs or institutions.
  • Performs data collection by reviewing electronic health records and medical databases. Recruits and screens subjects for research studies. Collects baseline and follow up data from subjects. Checks for validity and accuracy of data ensuring compliance with quality assurance requirements and clinical relevance.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge in applying health service concepts and methodology to medical research.
  • Experience in health service research including using large medical records data.
  • Experience in using statistical software particularly SAS.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience in obtaining extramural grants is a plus.
  • Ability to understand and utilize scientific/medical terminology and research theory in both oral and written communications.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Must be organized, attentive to detail, and possess a positive, friendly and professional demeanor.
  • Experience with amputee care is desirable.

Physical Capabilities

  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 10 lbs.
  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in an office setting.

Education and Experience

  • Doctoral Degree in Health Service, Health Economics, or related field
  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience required
