About the Role:
Execute experiments and support the validation of novel drug targets via multiple mechanisms. Validates new biochemical & cell-based assays to support identification, optimization, and characterization of novel drug candidates. Conducts essential experiments to help determine and characterize mechanism of action (MoA). Analyze and present data to lead scientists in an organized and timely manner. Work within and support biology needs of drug discovery teams. This position may also work in support of Gene Therapy._
Your Contributions (include, but are not limited to):Performs assigned experiments that support scientific activities and project goals, may design less complex experiments
Follows appropriate methods and techniques in performing experiments and prepares related reports
Collaborates with supervisory personnel to develop routine methods
Recommends alternatives, researches new methods and techniques and may proactively seek out senior personnel to discuss potential solutions
Responsible for cell-based or biochemical assay development, including primary cells and tissues, with some supervision
Maintains SOP's and writes data summaries for experiments conducted
Reviews, comprehends and complies with all SOP's, and safety and quality assurance standards at all times
Provides training and/or supervision to junior staff, as needed
Gene Therapy specific work will include support of Gene Therapy projects from inception to IND-enabling studies. Work with the R&D team to design and implement in vitro and in vivo strategies for development of Gene Therapies and to measure potency and efficacy. Remain current with the latest developments in Gene Therapy technologies, and support their implementation. Prepares detailed data reports and present results to peers, colleagues, and collaborators
Other duties as assigned
BS/BA degree in biology and 2+ years of relevant experience OR
MS/MA degree in biology and some relevant industry experience preferred OR
PhD or equivalent and some relevant experience preferred
Gene Therapy position will require a minimum of 2 years of postdoctoral experience in gene therapy
Knowledge of the principles of biology and chemistry, including pharmacology & cell biology
Experience with tissue culture techniques, including aseptic technique, primary and immortalized cell line development & management
Basic knowledge of NGS technologies, their implementation, and data analysis & relevant statistical tests
Gene manipulation techniques, including cloning, sequencing, use of gene expression manipulation technologies (may include experience with ASO, siRNA, miRNA, AAV transduction)
Knowledge of tissue processing techniques for detection of gene and protein expression, including fixation, sectioning, IHC, histological staining, ISH
Recognizes fundamental anomalies in data points and identifies issues in experiments / processes
Begins to understand how to think outside of the technical process and consider the impact decisions will have on the broader scientific goals
Strong knowledge of one scientific discipline
Good knowledge of scientific principles, methods and techniques
Good knowledge and demonstrated ability working with a variety of laboratory equipment/tools
Ability to work as part of a team.
Strong computer skills
Good communications, problem-solving, analytical thinking skills
Detail oriented
Ability to meet deadlines
Good project management skills

The annual base salary we reasonably expect to pay is $86,200.00-$125,050.00. Individual pay decisions depend on various factors, such as primary work location, complexity and responsibility of role, job duties/requirements, and relevant experience and skills. In addition, this position offers an annual bonus with a target of 20% of the earned base salary and eligibility to participate in our equity based long term incentive program. Benefits offered include a retirement savings plan (with company match), paid vacation, holiday and personal days, paid caregiver/parental and medical leave, and health benefits to include medical, prescription drug, dental and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans.
