About the Role:

Neurocrine Biosciences, Inc. (NASDAQ: NBIX) is offering the opportunity to gain clinical drug development experience in the world of biotechnology. The Pharmacometrics Group provides a range of pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics (PK/PD) modeling and simulation support for early and late state development programs. We are seeking skilled and qualified undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in summer internship opportunities to learn, grow and gain understanding of the role of clinical pharmacometricians in drug development. The Intern will work in the Pharmacometrics Group on his/her specific project and under the supervision of an experienced pharmacometrician. The project scope includes but is not limited to performing hands-on pharmacometrics analysis (PBPK, population PK, exposure-response modeling) and collaborating with other team members in drug development.

Your Contributions (include, but are not limited to):
  • Conduct literature review to gather background information on the project-related research topic

  • Investigate implementation of PBPK modelling for small and/or large molecules to support First in Human studies.

  • Develop PBPK models using SimCYP (or other suitable, e.g., PKSim, GastroPlus) software

  • Prepare analysis datasets, perform exploratory data analysis and develop pharmacometrics (Pop-PK and E-R) models to describe clinical observations of drug concentrations and biomarker/efficacy/safety responses

  • Interact with clinical pharmacology team and clinical development team within the company through attending the meeting or presenting the results

  • Complete a special project and present the recommendations to senior management upon completion

Requirements:
  • Pursuing a graduate degree (PhD or MS) in Pharmacometrics, Clinical Pharmacology, Clinical PK/PD, Pharmaceutical Sciences, (bio) Statistics or degree in PharmD with an interest in biotechnology and strong mathematical background

  • Knowledge in pharmacokinetics or statistics, and hands on experiences in programming languages, such as R, are preferred. Knowledge in pharmacometrics-related software is a bonus but not necessary

  • Prior experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry would be an asset but is not required

  • Familiarity with biopharmaceutical technologies, physical and life sciences, product development, and regulatory approval processes is desirable

  • Good verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to think creatively and be a team player

  • Offer flexibility with a willingness to work on multiple projects simultaneously

  • Bring to the Company a skill set complementary to its technology and development therapeutics

  • Interest in attending various program events, including social gatherings, career development workshops, and more

  • Ability to commit to a 10-week full-time summer program
