This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite at Moores Cancer Center and remote.

DESCRIPTION

The Moores Cancer Center (MCC) is one of just 51 in the United States to hold a National Cancer Institute (NCI) designation as a Comprehensive Cancer Center. Under the general direction of the Director of Education and Training, a Research Program Leader, and the Executive Director for Cancer Research, the primary responsibilities of this position are in three areas: research program management, data collection and data management, coordination of educational and training programs for individuals interested in cancer-related research (from elementary school through postdoctoral levels).

The incumbent will work closely with the Moores Cancer Center (MCC) Cancer Research Training and Education Coordination (CRTEC) office with the goal of providing STEM-based educational activities and outreach to all levels of students and trainees (from elementary school through Junior Faculty members). Incumbent will be responsible for CRTEC program coordination including organizing seminars, projects, and both internal and external events. Incumbent will also be involved with coordination of a research program at MCC, involving scheduling meetings for the faculty, taking notes, and overall programmatic communication. The incumbent will be responsible for using databases to track research accomplishments, program satisfaction, and trainee academic trajectory. Under the direction of the Director, the incumbent will be responsible for data entry, collating data, summary data analysis, and creating documents to depict data for CRTEC and the Research Program. This position will interact with diverse groups of people at all levels within multiple organizations, including individuals at the UCSD campus, RCHSD, ACTRI, as well as external organizations such as foundations, societies, K-12 schools, and other research groups at different campuses. Special consideration will be given to candidates with experience in administration, outreach, event coordination, education, data entry and/or basic website design and maintenance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Six years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in related area plus two years of related experience/training.

  • Minimum of two years of relevant research and/or project management experience in healthcare and/or finance. Knowledge of basic financial management principles and the ability to analyze financial and budgetary data. Demonstrated experience in budget preparation using automated spreadsheet systems.

  • Working knowledge of common organization- or research-specific and other computer application programs. Proficient in the use of standard software applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, photoshop, email programs, databases, and internet browsers.

  • Demonstrates ability to analyze, research and synthesize large amounts of data with strong attention to detail. Skill in analyzing information, situations, practices, and procedures to define the problem or objective, identify relevant factors, formulate logical and objective conclusions and recognize alternatives and their implications.

  • Demonstrated high level administrative skills to include experience with complex calendaring, domestic and international travel, and event/meeting planning.

  • Knowledge of contract and grant proposal formats, preparation, and submission, as well as federal, state and private funding agency regulations. Ability to guide principal investigators and administrative contacts in the preparation of proposal, continuation, and renewal materials.

  • Proficient in communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Ability to communicate effectively with wide variety of people, individually and in groups, in varying mediums and venues (email, phone, presentations, meetings, social media, etc.).

  • Proficient in ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.

  • Experience with program development, planning, operations and reporting requirements for extramurally funded grants and contracts.

  • Demonstrates ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns. Proven ability to exercise independent judgement, tact and firmness in interaction with faculty, staff, students and institutional colleagues. Ability to communicate in a professional, positive and persuasive manner.

  • Proficient in ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes. Ability to effectively prioritize workload and meet deadlines despite frequent interruptions and competing demands.

  • Demonstrated experience organizing, implementing, analyzing, and managing continuing medical education curricula and seminars.

  • Working knowledge of applicable policy analysis techniques.

  • Exceptional organizational skills, independent problem-solving skills, analytical skills, and mid-range planning skills with ability to identify future contingencies.

  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team member, actively listen, learn quickly and take personal accountability for contributing to success of team in meeting programmatic deliverables and organizational objectives.

PREFERRED QUALIICATIONS
  • Demonstrated effective writing skills and strong editing and proofreading skills. Ability to formulate and present written material in a logical and comprehensive manner.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of University policies and procedures. Demonstrated experience using UCSD business management systems, such as Financial Link, My Travel, and My Events.

  • Ability to independently interpret, analyze, and implement appropriate policies in a given situation.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $56,700 - $97,500 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $27.16 - $46.70

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
