Rider University invites applications for the position of Director of Sponsored Programs and Research within the Division of Academic Affairs.  The Director of Sponsored Programs and Research is responsible for researching and identifying governmental funding sources, supporting faculty through the grant proposal development process, engaging faculty and staff in the grant writing process, providing technical support to faculty and staff involved in a grant application, and providing training for proposal development. The Director also is responsible for maintaining all aspects of grant-related recordkeeping and ensuring that the University complies with all federal and state requirements. This role will ensure that the University is meeting the agreed-upon deliverables and expectations for each grant. The Director will collaborate with the Grants Account Manager in Finance to ensure that appropriate financial reporting is submitted promptly. Additionally, the Director will collaborate with subject matter experts and the University Advancement team to help identify private and public funding sources that may be potential prospects for the various faculty efforts. The Director will work closely with faculty, staff, and administrators using an inclusive, customer service-oriented approach to support the work of the Rider community.

Position Requirements

    • Master’s degree required; Ph.D. preferred. 
    • Demonstrated experience analyzing and submitting grant requests for proposals (RFPs). 
    • A minimum of three (3) years of grant writing or multi-grant management experience.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of the grant application process, scoring criteria, and funding cycles. 
    • Demonstrated experience working with federal grant applications, submissions, approvals, and management of funds. 
    • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in overseeing and managing both pre-award and post-award activities. 
    • Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills. 
    • Demonstrated commitment to building a robust, campus-wide grants culture.
    • Satisfactory background and/or DMV checks required 

 

 

Position Preferred Qualifications/Experience

  • Five (5) plus years of experience as a successful grant writer or managing a grant development and management operation. 
  • Previous grant budget development, management, and evaluation experience. 
  • Ability to understand and work with financial and payroll activity from multiple sources.
  • Designation of Certified Research Administrator (CRA), Certified Financial Research Administrator (CFRA) or Certified Grants Management Specialist (CGMS).
