Position Summary

Delaware County Community College (DCCC), an accredited institution of higher education offering associate degrees, seeks a dynamic and dedicated tenure-track Assistant Professor in Chemistry to join our team of faculty committed to student success. With a mission focused on facilitating learning through quality educational programs and services, we aim to meet the diverse educational needs of our community. If you believe in the concept of a student-ready college and meeting students where they are, DCCC is the place for you!

The successful candidate will primarily teach chemistry courses designed for non-science majors at the freshman level (https://catalog.dccc.edu/courses/course-descriptions/che/) and will play multiple roles as a teacher, mentor, colleague, and scholar. We are looking for someone with demonstrated knowledge and expertise in the subject matter, as well as relevant methodologies and tools. The ideal candidate will employ sound instructional methods drawn from the scholarship of teaching and learning to create a supportive learning environment that fosters critical thinking and experimentation. In addition to excelling in the classroom, faculty are expected to actively contribute to the division and wider college community.

Essential Functions

Essential Functions:

  • Provide engaging chemistry experiences to students in a collaborative laboratory environment.
  • Mentor and advise students across all STEM majors.
  • Participate in the maintenance and development of STEM courses and programs.
  • Engage in discussions regarding articulation agreements with STEM programs at local four-year colleges and universities.
  • Actively contribute to college meetings and committees.
  • Maintain regular office hours to support students and advisees.

The specific teaching assignment may include evening/weekend courses and may be shared between campuses. While courses are typically offered at the Marple, Downingtown, and/or New Southeast Campus, there may be expectations for teaching at any DCCC campus or online.

The successful candidate must be an engaging, effective, innovative, and dynamic teacher who fosters collaboration with faculty, staff, and students. They must be committed to the community college philosophy and improving access and retention to higher education, particularly for under-represented communities. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent teaching skills and prioritize teaching over research. They should be comfortable using a variety of teaching methods and technologies and should embrace diversity and inclusion in the classroom.

Experience & Education

Education & Experience:

Qualified candidates must have a Master's degree (Doctorate preferred) in chemistry from an accredited institution, with significant graduate-level coursework. Teaching experience at the secondary and/or undergraduate level is required, with college-level teaching experience in non-major laboratory courses preferred. Candidates should be comfortable using technology, software, and laboratory equipment in a collaborative laboratory curriculum.
