About the Role:

We are looking for a collaborative and highly motivated Scientist to join our In Vitro Pharmacology Team. The primary role will be to support multiple projects and provide subject matter expertise in in vitro assay development, cell line and disease models, and cellular and molecular biology techniques. This individual will be involved in the application of the developed disease models to drug discovery and development. The ideal candidate must have outstanding written and verbal communication skills, computer literacy, a strong work ethic, and be able to multitask and prioritize responsibilities. This candidate will be able to work together with his or her supervisor to seamlessly provide consistent support to multiple hit identification and lead optimization campaigns.

Your Contributions (include, but are not limited to):
  • Develops new biochemical and cell-based assays

  • Performs routine assays to support lead identification and optimization

  • Performs MOA studies using flow cytometry, ELISA/MSD, western blotting, transient transfections, and other techniques as needed

  • Responsible for data analysis and reporting

  • Tracks and documents assay performance

  • Continually provides recommendations to improve on process efficiency and research quality

  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:
  • BS/BA degree in scientific field and 2+ years of in vitro pharmacology experience; Preferred experience includes: primary cell culture, especially CNS, and related assay development, liquid handling automation and LIMS systems, GPCRs and related in vitro assays OR

  • MS/MA degree in scientific field and some relevant industry experience OR

  • PhD in biology or related field preferred

  • some experience with cell culture and cell-based in vitro assays, development and optimization of in vitro biological assays is required Preferred experience includes: primary cell culture, especially CNS, and related assay development, liquid handling automation and LIMS systems, GPCRs and related in vitro assays

  • Ability to independently design and perform standard and novel immune cell assays to validate immunological targets, and create detailed protocols and related documents

  • Hands-on experience with isolation and manipulation of human or mouse blood and tissue derived primary cells such as macrophages, splenocytes, PBMCs, microglia, neurons, and astrocytes

  • Hands-on experience with a broad array of in vitro techniques including but not limited to tissue culture, transfections, flow cytometry, MSD, ELISA, western blot, and qPCR

  • Working knowledge of automated liquid handlers and LIMS systems

  • Capable of independent lab work within a collaborative environment, with minimal guidance to explore, develop and validate novel methods and models for neurological and inflammatory disorders

  • Expertise in cell sorting (FACS), flow cytometry analysis, cell phenotyping analysis, functional immune assays, and signaling pathways in immune, glial, and neuronal cells

  • Recognizes fundamental anomalies in data points and identifies issues in experiments / processes

  • Begins to understand how to think outside of the technical process and consider the impact decisions will have on the broader scientific goals

  • Strong knowledge of one scientific discipline

  • Good knowledge of scientific principles, methods and techniques

  • Good knowledge and demonstrated ability working with a variety of laboratory equipment/tools

  • Ability to work as part of a team

  • Strong computer skills

  • Good communications, problem-solving, analytical thinking skills

  • Detail oriented

  • Ability to meet deadlines

  • Good project management skills

The annual base salary we reasonably expect to pay is $86,200.00-$125,050.00. Individual pay decisions depend on various factors, such as primary work location, complexity and responsibility of role, job duties/requirements, and relevant experience and skills. In addition, this position offers an annual bonus with a target of 20% of the earned base salary and eligibility to participate in our equity based long term incentive program. Benefits offered include a retirement savings plan (with company match), paid vacation, holiday and personal days, paid caregiver/parental and medical leave, and health benefits to include medical, prescription drug, dental and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans.
