The Department of Geological Sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) seeks applicants with a commitment to teaching, research, and partnership building with resource industries and research organizations in Alaska and elsewhere. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in geological sciences or a closely related discipline and should demonstrate university level teaching experience. Industry or postdoctoral experience will be considered favorably. Teaching expectations for this position will be variable each year but may include introductory geology courses, applied geophysics, geologic data analysis, and specialized undergraduate and graduate courses in the fields of applied petroleum geoscience and environmental geophysics or other courses in support of the department’s teaching needs.
Successful candidates must develop an externally funded research program that actively involves graduate and undergraduate students. The successful candidate would also benefit from access to the department’s state-of-the-art computational laboratory with 20 high-end workstations and over $100M of donated commercial software for teaching and research purposes.
Support University of Alaska tripartite mission of performing teaching, research and public service.
Mentor and advise undergraduate and graduate students.
Teach courses in a manner consistent with the course content description.
Hold office hours appropriate for the courses being taught.
Conduct research in Geological sciences - Applied Geophysics.
Provide university, professional, and community service.
Help establish a strong externally funded program.
Be proactive in developing and modifying curriculum for delivery and other teaching modalities.
