We are seeking to employ a suitably qualified Lecturer in Nursing (Social Sciences) who is a talented educator with a passion for and demonstrated excellence in education and research related to nursing and healthcare underpinned by behavioural and social dimensions of health.
Our goal is to ensure our students become advocates to speak out on matters of social injustice in health, and the incumbent will have a keen awareness of the social determinants of health and be able to instil this into student learning. This is an excellent opportunity to make a significant contribution to high quality teaching and learning practices, curriculum design and evaluation at pre-registration, honours and post-registration levels. The successful applicant will also be required to assume academic administration and school leadership responsibilities. Your key responsibilities will be to:
- Build and maintain a reputation for academic excellence in the social, behavioural and humanities aspects of health and nursing
- engage in high quality teaching and learning experiences in the social, behavioural and humanities aspects of health and nursing at pre-registration, honours and post-registration levels
- inform and contribute to the teaching of interpersonal communication in nursing and healthcare
- design, coordinate and deliver quality educational units of study and experiences that support student needs and meet accredited curriculum requirements, and contribute to the innovative design, development, implementation and evaluation of nursing curricula
- continue to develop your research profile by undertaking original research within the discipline or area of your expertise
- undertake Higher Degree Research supervision as appropriate
- contribute to the research, education and administration activities of the school and faculty as relevant to the role.
About you
- Registered nurse with AHPRA
- postgraduate qualification in nursing, higher education or related field
- PhD in an academic field relevant to nursing
- have a strong understanding or lived experience in minority communities and the impact of poverty and racism on health and be able to convey this as an educator to students and/or strong understanding of health systems
- a strong understanding of communication strategies informed by behavioural and/or social sciences
- a deep and broad experience in teaching and learning, as evidenced by participation in and development of effective and contemporary pedagogical practices that engage students in developing critical understanding and application of nursing practice
- demonstrated success in designing, coordinating, implementing and evaluating teaching and learning initiatives
- knowledge and understanding of the key strategic issues in the discipline and higher education sector
- demonstrated capacity to communicate effectively across a range of media and forums
- experience in teaching and delivering curricula to nurses and/or other health professionals
- a developing network of relationships with key academic, industry and professional institutions and stakeholders experience in supervising or mentoring others and/or coordinating team activities
- a developing national profile with evidence in high quality publications and applications for competitive research grants.

Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
