If so, we're looking for someone like you to join our team at APL.

 

We are seeking an experienced Front-End Developer within our Multimedia Design Group! This group of creatives will provide technical staff, Lab leaders, and our Lab engagement and public relations strategists with high-quality multi-media products, ranging from short animations to scripted videos, from websites to microsites, from graphic identifiers to staging design, and from conceptual to technical illustrations.

 

As a UI Developer at APL you will…

    • Develop outstanding digital products in partnership with a design section of hardworking UX designers and front-end developers.

    • Support design and development for sponsor funded web applications.

    • Be responsible for the front-end development of our various digital assets.

    • Consult with technical investigators and leaders to determine best structure for web/mobile pages to meet both functional and aesthetic requirements.

    • Prioritize and manage multiple projects within design specifications and budgets.

    • Work collaboratively with at all levels of a matrixed organization to ensure a seamless workflow and the highest quality products and deliverables.

    • Report to the Section Supervisor of one of our interdisciplinary sections within our Multimedia Design Group.


Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

 

  • Provide a link in your resume to a web portfolio or GitHub page showcasing your development projects.

  • Have a B.S. in computer science or related field or equivalent years of experience.

  • Have 3+ years of professional front-end web development experience (science and technology industry experience highly desired).

  • Are able to accurately turn Figma or Sketch designs into working, “responsive” interfaces with the essential web technologies: HTML that is semantic and accessible, CSS for styling, programming with Javascript, browser APIs, CRUD actions when working with data from REST APIs, and common data structures like JSON.

  • Have Experience with modern web frameworks, libraries & tools for building modern interfaces (i.e.: Typescript, React, Vue, Tailwind, CSS preprocessors).

  • Have experience with modern web development environments (Vite, webpack) that use version control (Git), package management (NPM, Yarn) and some command line tools.

  • The ability to work on both Mac and Windows platforms.

  • Unquestionable integrity and excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Are able to obtain a Secret level security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

 

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you also...

 

  • Have UX design chops and are comfortable prototyping in apps like Figma, Sketch or Axure.

  • Have experience with Storybook JS or tools for creating component stories.

  • Have working with Markdown within development projects (i.e.: MDX, MDC or even Nuxt Content).

  • Have experience working with Vite or Webpack config files.

  • Have experience working with web animation libraries like Greensock (GSAP), Anime.js, or Three.js.
