The Post Doctoral Associate performs scientific research and studies under the supervision of managing staff. Moreover, the Post Doctoral Associate promotes institutional recognition through literal contributions to the scientific community.

 

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

 

Conducts research on specific areas of study as assigned.

Prepares research reports and technical papers for publishing.

Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and theories.

Maintains substantial knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories. Develops advanced analytical models and systems and provides solutions and analyses to support strategic and tactical decisions.

Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Education:

MD or Ph.D. in relevant field

  • Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data.
  • Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.

 

DEPARTMENT ADDENDUM

 

Department Specific Functions

  • To conduct research, scholarship, or creative activity as a research associate, especially the encapsulation of novel phase change materials in engineered biochar, for building envelope and cool pavement applications.
  • To provide daily supervision of safety and compliance of the Principal Investigator’s specific laboratory.
  • To develop proposals to secure funding for research projects related to durability, sustainability and/or resilience of civil infrastructures, especially the beneficial use of industrial wastes and byproducts
  • To collaborate with colleagues within the university to conduct research and jointly prepare research proposals.
  • To conduct modeling and experimental research for ongoing projects and producing preliminary outcomes for the projects to be applied.
  • To provide guidance and support to graduate students for their involved and degree-related research projects.
  • To prepare reports for completed projects and disseminating research findings through publications in academic journals, as well as presentations at conferences and workshops.

 

Department Specific Qualifications

 

Education:

PhD in Civil Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, or a highly related field.

 

Experience:

Experience with phase change material or biochar technology.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Educational training and/or hands-on research experience related to cement and concrete materials, biochar, and/or phase change material
  • Hands-on R&D experience in advanced characterization tools for civil infrastructure materials, e.g., XRF, XRD, FTIR, SEM, EDX, TEM, Raman, NMR, XPS, AFM, and nanoindentation.
  • Publication record as 1st author in at least one reputable journals relevant to civil infrastructure materials Self-motivated to grow professionally, willingness and ability to learn new skills, and ability to work both independently and in a collaborative team environment
