Job Description
Foley & Lardner LLP is seeking a patent associate or agent with 3+ years of patent counseling experience, including preparation and prosecution experience to join the firm's pre-eminent, national Intellectual Property Department's Chemical, Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Practice Group in one of the following offices: Boston, Chicago, Madison, Milwaukee, New York, San Diego, Silicon Valley, or Washington DC. Alternate Foley office locations may be considered based on business need and the candidate's experience.Qualified candidates must hold a PhD in the biological sciences (i.e. Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or Genetics) or a related field, and a USPTO registration number. The candidate is required to have experience drafting and prosecuting domestic and international patent applications and preferably also in preparing patent opinions specifically in biotechnology or similar technology. Our ideal candidate will have immediately transferable skills, strong legal writing and research skills, and excellent written and oral communication skills. Top academics and law firm experience also required.
To be considered, attorney and agent candidates must have a strong academic background and be registered to practice before the Patent Office. Attorney candidates also must hold a JD from an ABA-approved law school and must be in good standing and an active member of the Bar of the jurisdiction(s) where the candidate is admitted to practice law. Timely admission to the Bar of the state in which the office of hire is located will be a condition of employment.

Pursuant to the CA Pay Transparency for Pay Equity Act, the expected salary range for this position is between $150,000 - $260,000.
