|Job Title||Estuary Dynamics Postdoc|
|Location||Los Alamos, NM, US|
|Organization Name||T-3/Fluid Dynamics And Solid Mechanics|
What You Will Do
The Fluid Dynamics and Solid Mechanics group at Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking qualified applicants in the area of Earth-system modeling. This postdoc position will focus on improving and understanding estuarine physics within the Department of Energy’s multi-program, collaborative Integrated Coastal Modeling (ICoM) project, which seeks to understand coastal evolution that accounts for the complex, multiscale interactions among physical, biological, and human systems in coastal regions. The primary objective of the postdoc project is to extend a state-of-the-science global ocean model to coastal scales, with a particular focus in estuarine turbulence and sediment transport, with possible expansions into biogeochemistry. This project contributes to the broader Energy Exascale Earth System Model (E3SM) project. DOE's E3SM is a state-of-the-science Earth system model development and simulation project to investigate energy-relevant science using code optimized for DOE's advanced computers. The successful candidate will set up, run, and validate idealized coastal cases and fully coupled, global, variable-resolution E3SM simulations to better understand salt and sediment front movement, as well as contribute to model development and the formulation of other relevant scientific questions.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work closely with ICoM and E3SM project scientists at Los Alamos and to collaborate with other scientists engaged across these multi-institution, multidisciplinary projects. We expect that the successful candidate will help to define specific science goals that are compatible with these broader programs.
Exceptionally well-qualified candidates may be considered for a Director's Postdoctoral Fellowship or Distinguished (Feynman/Oppenheimer) Postdoctoral Fellowship.
