|Job Description Summary:||
A Postdoctoral Scientist position is available for a skilled and motivated scientist in the Laboratory of Dr. Maho Shibata in the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology and the George Washington University Cancer Center at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. Our lab applies concepts from developmental biology and stem cell biology to prostate cancer research. We use genetically engineered mouse models, explant cultures, and 3D organoid culture systems to study androgen signaling during prostate development, and to identify novel molecular drivers of castration-resistant prostate cancer. There are multiple project possibilities.
Our lab is located in the GW Cancer Center in the highly urban center of Washington D.C., on the top floor of the state-of-the-art Science and Engineering Hall, which opened in 2016. The GW Cancer Center brings together cancer research, clinical cancer care, and cancer control/prevention and outreach initiatives at GW. GW has demonstrated a strong commitment to cancer research by recruiting expert researchers in establishing the GW Cancer Center to grow and diversify cancer research locally. The training and education of the next generation of cancer researchers is one of the GW Cancer Center’s top priorities. We believe that our science is better with a diverse team, and welcome applicants from varying backgrounds and identities.
This position is primarily a temporary/training position in which the incumbent plays a substantive role in planning and conducting research by designing and conducting experiments in a controlled laboratory setting. In collaboration with the Principal Investigator, this role will participate in the planning of independent research, will analyze and interpret data, will publish results, will represent the university at conferences and meetings, and may develop new theories and methodologies. This position may also help the Principal Investigator to lead and direct the work of lower level research staff. This role performs work under the supervision of experienced researchers.
Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Qualified candidates will hold a Doctoral degree in a related discipline. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.
