The Virginia Community College System invites applications and nominations for the presidency of Danville Community College (DCC). Danville Community College is one of 23 community colleges in Virginia and was founded in 1966 as a result of the merger of its predecessor institutions – the Danville Branch of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and Danville Technical Institute. The College’s service region includes the City of Danville, along with Pittsylvania and Halifax counties. The College serves a total population of over 135,000 citizens. Additionally, it is the largest provider of educational opportunities in the service region. The Virginia Community College System and Danville Community College recognize diversity that is not limited to race, ethnicity, religion, culture, social class, age, gender, sexual orientation and physical or mental capability. Danville Community College is located in Danville, Virginia, on the south-central border of Virginia and North Carolina. Situated in a picturesque rural setting, Danville is easily accessible to the nearby cities of Roanoke, Richmond, and Charlottesville in Virginia and Greensboro, Raleigh, and the Research Triangle Park in North Carolina. All of these cities are located within a two-and-a-half-hour drive. The campus includes 13 buildings which total approximately 230,500 square feet on 86 acres. The College’s new welding building, opened in 2018, and fully renovated Charles R. Hawkins Engineering and Industrial Technologies (EIT) Building houses a diverse mix of programs offering certifications in high-demand, high-paying career fields. DCC’s commitment to academic excellence and intellectual rigor is best exemplified by the 65 full-time teaching faculty, 19 professional and administrative faculty, and more than 60 dedicated adjunct faculty. The College employs more than 59 full-time, well-trained, and experienced staff members along with 75 part-time employees who work within a vibrant community that values their opinions and recognizes the effect their presence has on the life of DCC. Many of the staff are graduates of the College and are long-time area residents who have invested their entire professional lives at DCC. Danville Community College Workforce Services (WFS) serves the workforce and economic development needs in Danville City and Pittsylvania and Halifax Counties. DCC’s student attainment of workforce certifications and college degrees in technical fields allows students to focus on two year or less technical degree programs as well as short term employment training. Area businesses continue to seek workforce guidance in the areas of workforce training, customized instruction, consulting, skills assessments, and other workforce solutions. The College offers 108 programs of study leading to the attainment of associate degree, diploma, certificate, or career studies certificate.
