We are currently looking to add an accomplished and passionate Research Specialist III in the lab of Dr. Danesh Moazed at Harvard Medical School. The Moazed Lab is investigating the mechanisms that govern the assembly and epigenetic inheritance of silent chromatin domains. The laboratory uses biochemical, structural, genetic, computational, and high throughput approaches to study epigenetic inheritance in yeast and mammalian model organisms. This individual will work with the Principle investigator and other scientists in designing and implementing research projects seeking to address key questions about gene silencing and epigenetic inheritance. The individual will be also be responsible for ensuring seamless operation of the lab through close partnership with the Investigator and Lab Manager. As such, we are looking for someone who not only has a passion for science, but an understanding of the importance of lab administration and a deep interest in helping the lab function at its highest level. The best candidate will have a strong background in experimental biology, and an innate desire for continuous learning and curiosity-driven exploration, enjoy working with others, and have a commitment to rigorous critical thinking.
This person will serve a senior researcher role within the lab and will be responsible for many of the day to day operations, as well as assisting with developing solutions to issues that develop and supporting work across the entire lab.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Perform molecular biology, biochemistry, and/or structural biology experiments.
Support the collaborative research environment and provide guidance on technical and operational aspects of research.
Identify methodological problems in research protocols and develop solutions to those problems.
Develop innovative techniques and systems required to meet research goals, and may implement and/or coordinate specialized research functions such as microscopy, biochemical experiments, protein purification, high throughput analysis of chromatin modifications and genome organization, CRISPR genome editing, and cryoEM analysis of chromatin complexes
Use and understand a wide variety of molecular and cellular biology protocols – such as cloning, DNA/RNA sequencing, tissue culturing, preparing reagents and protein gels
Attend and present at scientific meetings and other relevant conferences
Train and mentor junior lab members, both on experimental techniques and specialized research protocols
Participate in laboratory meetings and read literature applicable to the research area
Along with other duties as assigned by the Principal Investigator, the candidate will serve as a senior member of the lab, acting as a resource for both students and staff for a variety of issues.
Qualifications
PhD in Biology or a related field, or equivalent experience and education
At least 2-5 years of postdoctoral research experience working in a molecular biology, biochemistry, or structural biology laboratory is strongly preferred
A strong desire to mentor and teach students of all levels
Excellent analytical, communication, problem solving, and organizational skills
Ability to work both independently and as a team member
Able to learn complex tasks with general instruction, and to use experience to perform a variety of new techniques
Actively seeks opportunities to increase skills and expertise
In-depth knowledge of molecular biology and genetics
Ability to make sound decisions based on knowledge and experience
Ability to make research presentations and draft research manuscripts
Ability to review data and information critically
Ability to develop innovative procedures to achieve goals
Physical Requirements
Remaining in a normal seated or standing position for extended periods of time; reaching and grasping by extending hand(s) or arm(s); dexterity to manipulate objects with fingers, for example using a keyboard; communication skills using the spoken word; ability to see and hear within normal parameters; ability to move about workspace. The position requires mobility, including the ability to move materials weighing up to several pounds (such as a laptop computer or tablet). Work may involve possible exposure to malodorous vapors, low dose radiation, contamination by toxic chemicals and acids and presence of carcinogenic substances.
