Functions and Responsibilities

 

Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Vice President of Academic Affairs or
designee, the Dean of Faculty is responsible for providing the vision, leadership and strategic plan for developing, implementing and evaluating academic curriculum, programs, and projects.

Supervisory Role
Oral and written instructions are received from the Vice President for Academic Affairs or designee. The Dean of Faculty may supervise administrative staff, professional staff, support staff, and student workers.

Duties & Responsibilities
1. Initiate, organize, develop, implement and evaluate the instructional programs of the college.
 
2. Oversee the delivery of instruction in a variety of formats such as lecture, distance learning via the internet.
 
3. Facilitate assessment driven, budget planning decisions among the various instructional departments and divisions.
 
4. Provide leadership in the areas of faculty development, academic standards and policy, curriculum development, and instruction innovation.
 
5. Prepare, in collaboration with chairpersons, materials for the college schedule, catalog and other college publications.
 
6. Provide leadership, working collaboratively with divisions and departments, to ensure courses and programs reflect most recent developments in knowledge, technology and professional practice.
 
7. Participate in the development of college-wide grant funding to support new and existing programs.
 
8. Provide leadership, working collaboratively with chairpersons, to facilitate faculty and staff hiring and evaluation.
 
9. Participate in the activities of faculty shared-governance related to curriculum, program and faculty development.
 
10. Develop the academic budget based on outcome assessment and strategic planning priorities.
 
11. Prepare routine, special and ancillary reports as required.
 
12. Perform other related duties as required.

Additional Requirements
 
Minimum Qualifications

 

Experience (number of years), Knowledge and/or Abilities
1. Doctorate or terminal degree.
 
2. Demonstrated knowledge of college administration, policies and procedures, preferably at the community college level.
 
3. Teaching experience at the college level.
 
4. Progressive administrative experience related to planning curriculum and instructional programs.
 
5. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse academic, staff and student populations as well as external constituents.
 
6. Commitment to the philosophy of a comprehensive community college preparing to meet the needs of the 21st century.
 
7. Excellent analytic, problem solving, decision making, and organizational skills.
 
8. Excellent interpersonal skills.
 
9. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
 
10. Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.

Education Requirements
Doctorate Degree

Licenses and Certifications (including e.g., CPR, first aid, driver’s license, etc.)
 
Preferred Qualifications

 

Experience (number of years), Knowledge and/or Abilities
1. Doctorate or terminal degree Higher Education, Administration, or related area.
 
2. Three or more years progressive administrative experience related to planning curriculum and instructional programs.
 
3. Demonstrated ability to provide vision and strong leadership in all matters pertaining to academic programs.
 
4. Demonstrated knowledge of computerized record management and maintenance, preferably the Banner system.
