The postdoctoral scientist will conduct research focused on developing an electrochemical method of measuring the activity of enzymes that convert methane gas into methanol. These enzymes, called methane monooxygenases (MMOs), provide biological platforms for technologies that can produce new chemicals from methane gas and can also help mitigate methane gas emissions from a variety of natural and engineered systems.
The postdoctoral scientist will assist with the electrochemical goals of the project, namely development of an electrochemical method that quantifies enzyme activity. Once developed, the secondary goal is to downsize the method to enable increased throughput. The research will consist of experimental work located in the Environmental Engineering Lab at NC State.
The postdoctoral scientist will be responsible for designing, conducting, and analyzing lab-based experiments focused on the development and downsizing of the electrochemical method. The postdoc is expected to work in the lab, meet with the supervisor to discuss research progress, lab group meetings, assist in preparing manuscripts that summarize research findings, and present findings at conferences/symposia.
