Job Description

POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE, Civil and Environmental Engineering-Concrete Sustainability Hub (CSHub), to join an interdisciplinary group that studies the microtexture, micromechanics, chemistry, and electrochemistry of cement-based materials. This work is focused at the intersection of advanced microspectroscopy, nanomechanical and electrochemical testing, and modeling of multifunctional cement-based materials. Responsibilities include material development, Raman spectroscopy, SEM/EDS, nanomechanical testing, electrical property determination, and analysis of the results; lab management; interacting with industry sponsors in a variety of ways (webinars, seminars, talks, etc.); developing links with other groups at MIT working in materials science and analytical and experimental electrochemistry; interfacing with the greater CSHub group in a shared working environment and in group meetings; and interfacing with the greater cement science and engineering mechanics communities.  

REQUIRED:  Ph.D. in civil and environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field; knowledge of and demonstrated skillset in micromechanics (experimental and theoretical), texture analysis, computational chemomechanics, material design, and technical writing; ability to work in and communicate effectively with a multidisciplinary research team and technical experts from industry; a track record of publications and scientific output; self-motivation; ability to work independently; and excellent organizational, analytical, and writing skills.  PREFERRED: background in multiscale computational mechanics.  Job #20893
