Dr.Wolf’s laboratory is looking for a highly motivated Research Associate II interested in the innate inflammatory responses of myeloid cells to join the Department of Biomedical Sciences and the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Institute (IBDI) at Cedars-Sinai. Cedars-Sinai is a multidisciplinary, highly collaborative research center with an emphasis on disease and translational research.
Dr. Wolf’s laboratory research focuses on the cellular mechanisms that control the innate inflammatory responses of myeloid phagocytes to bacterial and fungal infections. Recent research has begun to explore the interaction between glycolytic metabolism and the inflammatory responses of myeloid cells sensing the sugars in the cell wall of Gram-positive bacteria. We are looking for an eager scientist with a basic scientific background who is willing to learn new techniques, collaborate with postdoctoral scientists, and excited about the challenges of examining the interactions between metabolism, immunity and infection. Working under direct supervision, the Research Associate II performs routine and increasingly complex laboratory tasks and procedures and develops technical expertise in one or more areas relevant to research projects. The Research Associate II will participate in research activities involving all aspects of the research process, to include, but not limited to; investigation, technical, testing/validation of results, and report findings. The Associate will perform a variety of routine experimental protocols and procedures to support the objectives of laboratory research projects. The Associate will observe and comply with safety standards and procedures, assist in preparation of data for publication and/or presentation at scholarly meetings, and assist in general laboratory maintenance. This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:- Performs a variety of increasingly complex experimental protocols and procedures and assist in the design of new complex or unusual protocols and techniques.
- Keeps accurate and detailed records of experiments and results, and assist in identifying and troubleshooting of unexpected results.
- Orders laboratory supplies and supports laboratory operations.
- Maintains lab equipment and related records and may coordinate use of lab equipment.
- Assists in the operation of specialized equipment, as required by the area of research.
- Assists in preparation of data for publication and/or presentation at scholarly meetings.
- Observes and complies with safety standards and procedures.
- Orients research laboratory assistants or lower level research associates and undergraduate student researchers on day-to-day lab operations and routine procedures.
- Independently conduct experiments planned together with the PI and post-doctoral scientist.
- Maintain accurate, complete, up-to-date notes about lab work and results.
- Analyze basic data sets and generate figures of data and present the work to the research group.
- Participates in group discussions and regular lab meetings related to the lab’s research.
- Works together with lab staff on large research projects.
- Clear communication and coordination of research activities within the lab.
Qualifications
Education:

Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts Degree in biological sciences, required.
Experience and Skills:
- One (1) year of experience is required. Understanding of general research objectives.
- Some experience with some basic molecular biology techniques is a plus (e.g. ELISA, Western Blots, protein assays, cloning, RNA and DNA isolation).
- Excellent time management.
- Prior basic experience with cell culture is desirable.
- Coordination of tasks and activities to maximize the effectiveness of time management.
- Working knowledge of database management, personal computers, and presentation and imaging software.
- Familiar with routine laboratory procedures and experimental protocols.
- Must possess computer skills to include, but not limited to, Excel and Word.
