Biotech Intern (Students Only)

Job Description

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Compton College District Biotechnology Department has an internship program that is vital in providing quality lab support services to our science courses. The Biotech Interns are Compton College District students who work part-time for the Biotech Department while attending Compton College. The program allows students to gain valuable experience working in a biotech lab setting while pursuing their educational goals. Biotech interns can work up to, but not exceed 20 hours per week and perform a variety of assignments.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/FUNCTIONS

Providing assistance to instructors, staff, and students. Preparing lab materials and reagents for instructors and laboratory technicians. Organizing, cleaning, and putting away slides, specimens, glassware, reagents, etc.

Creating videos and writing protocols/SOP's for instrument usage and maintenance

Piloting lab procedures and adapting protocols to be student-friendly

And other duties as required

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Currently enrolled in BIOTECH 150 or BIOTECH 220 as a student at Compton College with at least six total units per semester GPA of 2.0 or higher 18 years of age

 

SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Ability to work with little to no supervision, independently and accurately, solve technical and methodological issues during work.

Ability to learn new software and research techniques as needed.

The ability to communicate orally, write, and adequately document in a report.

Self-starter, strong organization, interpersonal skills, and apply sound judgement.

 

POSITION DETAILS:

Salary Range: $16.00 - $17.50 per hour

Dates of Employment: Spring Semester, February 8, 2024 - June 30, 2024

Primary Location: Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM)
