Posting Details
The Dean of Academic Effectiveness and Innovation will provide vision and leadership for a comprehensive model of assessment of student learning, curriculum, and faculty development. This role will oversee a wide range of support, resources, and training opportunities to foster a culture of continuous improvement for programs and departments. The Dean will coordinate and supply instructional development for faculty at all career stages and for all teaching formats (face-to-face, online, and hybrid). All development opportunities will stem from research, data, and best practices in the areas of assessment of student learning, program review, racially and culturally responsive curriculum and instruction, course design, innovative instructional technologies, and student success. Faculty development will align with staff and organizational development to ensure departments across the institution receive timely and relevant development opportunities.

The Dean of Academic Effectiveness and Innovation will work directly with faculty, staff, academic leaders, Cabinet, and the Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion to determine specific teaching, learning, and assessment needs at the course, department/program, and institutional levels. The Dean supervises the Coordinator of Curriculum and Assessment, Coordinator of Co-Curricular Assessment, and the Instructional Designer. The Dean also supervises the Library, including all library faculty and staff. The Dean reports to the Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs and serves as the primary liaison between relevant development activities and administrative functions.

Job Description

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in an academic discipline or administrative area.
  • Five years’ work experience in the education field, including at least two years of leadership experience.
  • Expertise in culturally responsive teaching pedagogy.
  • Experience teaching in a variety of formats (face-to-face, online, and blended course), preferably within higher education.
  • Experience consulting with faculty on the improvement of teaching and learning.
  • Demonstrated ability in the area of curriculum development, evaluation, and academic assessment (i.e. knowledge of instructional design and learning theory).
  • Evidence of effective interpersonal communication, critical thinking, team building, public speaking, and mediation skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities.
  • Commitment to continued professional growth.
  • Experience of using data to make informed decisions and create action plans.
  • Ability to manage projects and prioritize multiple projects.
  • Demonstrated effort to improve cultural competence and foster equity and inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctorate from a regionally accredited institution in an academic discipline or administrative area.
  • 15 graduate-level credits in instructional development, online teaching, curriculum, Quality Matters, and/or academic technologies.
  • Five or more years of teaching experience.
  • Experience with providing faculty development.
  • Knowledge of adult learning theory.
  • Knowledge of Minnesota State policies, procedures, and organizational structure.
  • Experience working in urban community college.
