Position Description

Performs specialized post-doctoral work research under the direction of a faculty member. Including the planning, execution, and supervision of original research. Responsible for participating in research associated with PhD and MS studies and the interpretation of results that are ultimately written up for publication. Evaluation is based on accomplishment of assigned objectives and overall effectiveness of projects. May supervise research and student assistants.

Major/Essential Functions

The postdoctoral research associate will use a variety of data, GIS approaches, univariate and multivariate statistics, and ecological niche models to conduct original research on the macroecology of bats.
Responsibilities: Conduct research related to macroecology of bats, in particular developing ecological niche models for bats of North and South America and using these models to better understand gradients of biodiversity. In addition, the post-doc will present research results at professional meetings and publish results in peer reviewed journals.

Required Qualifications

PhD in area of project specialization. Knowledge of modern research practices, the methods, resources, and standards thereof. Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives and exercise independent judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities. Ability to integrate resources, policies, and information for the determination of procedures, solutions and other outcomes. Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with other employees and the public. Ability to plan and allocate the workload of employees, providing direct training and supervision as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

Ph.D. received within the last 5 years or a graduate student who has successfully completed all requirements for a Ph.D. but has not actually received a diploma. In this situation the applicant must present evidence of completion of the degree requirements accompanied by a statement from the degree granting university documenting the expected date when the degree is to be conferred.
PhD with experience with community ecology, biogeography and macroecology of mammals. The applicant should demonstrate excellent analytical, GIS , ecological niche modelling and publishing skills.
