The Division of Public Safety and Security (DPSS) leads all public safety functions within the university, including police, security, and emergency management, and offers an integrated approach to safety and security, operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. DPSS combines Ann Arbor, Dearborn, and Flint operations to provide students, visitors, faculty, and staff with a safe and secure environment. Through our partnerships across the university and local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, we use a blended service model to meet the needs of our community and exceed expectations.

Michigan Medicine Security is a full-service, 24-hour public safety department that works to meet the needs of the Michigan Medicine community. We are widely acknowledged as a healthcare security leader in patient and family-centered care. Our officers and support staff are highly trained healthcare security professionals equipped to serve all members of our community. We manage all security operations at Michigan Medicine and offer an integrated approach to safety and security. 

Departments are a seven (7) day per week, twenty-four (24) hour per day operation. Work schedules may include nights, weekends, afternoons, holidays, and occasional unanticipated overtime. This is a uniformed position following the DPSS uniformed dress code. There will be stationary and mobile patrol responsibilities within an 8-hour (minimum) shift.

You must pass a comprehensive public safety background investigation, psychological evaluation, physical and drug screening.

Additional Information

All members of the DPSS team are considered Campus Security Authorities (CSAs) under The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. As such, you are required to report offenses that come to your attention.

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Police Officers Association of Michigan union which contains and settles all matters concerning wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
