Summary of Position
The International Student Advisor will work with current and prospective international students at RRCC. They will serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) and engage with students enrolled in or interested in both ESL and regular college classes. They will assist potential students throughout the application and registration process and work with current students to maintain compliance with their F-1 or M-1 visa status. They will also assist with orientations and ensuring international students have the additional support needed to attend and thrive at RRCC.
A successful candidate in this position must have a strong understanding of immigration regulations, particularly those pertaining to F-1 and M-1 visa statuses. They should be proficient in SEVIS reporting, ensuring accurate maintenance of student records and compliance with federal guidelines. The candidate should also be capable of explaining complex immigration rules in a clear and accessible manner to students, helping them navigate the process smoothly.
Interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity are essential for supporting international students both academically and personally. The candidate will need to provide one-on-one advising, assist with cross-cultural adjustments, and develop programs that help students integrate into campus life. Empathy and a genuine interest in supporting the unique challenges faced by international students are key to fostering a welcoming environment.
Attention to detail and strong organizational abilities are crucial for managing the administrative responsibilities of the role. This includes processing immigration documents, tracking student enrollment, and ensuring compliance with visa regulations. The candidate must be able to manage multiple tasks efficiently and maintain accurate records to support both the students and the institution effectively.

- Experience with Banner
- Experience communicating with speakers of English as a second language
WORK ENVIRONMENT & TYPICAL WORK SCHEDULE (DAYS/TIMES):Work is generally performed in a standard office environment. Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. May require hours outside of regular office hours. May require work at both campuses. May require travel between campuses.
PHYSICAL & COGNITIVE DEMANDS:
- Occasionally moves, positions, and transport standard office supplies and equipment weighing up to 10 lbs.
- This is largely a sedentary role. This position operates in an office environment and constantly uses a computer, and routinely uses standard office equipment including phones, copiers, etc.
- The person in this position constantly communicates with internal and external constituents and students. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
- Cognitive demands include comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, synthesizing, negotiating, communicating, instructing, and interpersonal skills.
