Job Profile Summary
The Associate Vice President for Student Success provides leadership, direction, management, and administration of student success initiatives with a specific focus on underrepresented student populations. The Associate Vice President also is responsible for the district oversight of the Testing Centers. This position works in collaboration with the college provost, campus presidents, deans, associate deans and program coordinators as a resource to advance targeted areas through specific strategies and makes recommendations on related policies and procedures that ensure college wide effectiveness and regulatory compliance.
Minimum Education:
- Master's Degree. Doctorate Degree preferred.
Minimum Experience/Training:
- Ten years or more years of relevant business experience, including eight years in management/leadership and five years preferably in a higher education setting.
- Experience preferred: Community college teaching, Guided Pathways, Achieving the Dream or Grant writing.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Essential Functions:
- Provides leadership in the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of student success interventions to increase access, equity, and inclusion of underrepresented student populations.
- Conducts and analyses a variety of student data to review systematic changes that will enhance success and close equity and achievement gaps. Monitors the effectiveness of these programs under key responsibilities.
- Administers college-wide coordination of testing centers. Responsible for policy recommendation, implementation and interpretation.
- Provides district-level support of the national Pathways implementation student success initiative by assessing its effectiveness, monitoring progress of institutional adoption, and communicating implementation efforts as well as national trends to faculty, staff and administrators.
- Provides effective and efficient management of student success program to ensure that resources are allocated effectively to achieve objectives. Collaborates with associate deans, financial aid department, and student services to schedule and monitor the implementation of said initiative. Implements data-driven decisions to ensure that programs produce measurable results that are communicated to the campus community.
- Serves as the liaison of national student success organizations and strategies related to student achievement including Achieving the Dream (ATD) AACC Pathways Projects, HACU, and other national and state success initiatives for underrepresented student population such as ASPIRE, ARISE, and BRIDGES. Represents the College on site visits and at conferences.
- Monitors and manages the financial sources that support student success initiatives. Develops and manages annual budgets for the department and performs periodic cost and productivity analyses.
- Ensures the provision of adequate, accurate, and timely data for immediate and long-term strategic decision-making and operational leadership. Prepares reports for initiatives as well as for Senior Management and communicates with the college community as needed.
- Assesses the effectiveness of adaptive tools in support of developmental education.
- Responsible for the implementation of contracts, monitoring of policies, procedures, and best practices related to these tools and increasing the success of developmental education.
- Responsible for people management of the area, including recommendation of staffing, hiring, termination and discipline, setting performance standards and evaluating staff, and staff development and training.
- Performs related duties as assigned.

- Ability to translate College-wide strategies and priorities into strategic and operational plans and policies for own area
- Ability to understand the impact of own area on the College and to contribute to the development of the College's strategic plan
- Proven leadership skills and managerial expertise, and ability to motivate and empower direct and indirect reports to achieve priorities and expectations for own area
- Ability to forecast and manage budgets and other resource requirements for area of responsibility
- Ability to work effectively with diverse groups and promote a safe and inclusive environment for learning
- Ability to partner with others across the College and externally develops strategies and plans to exchange information, collaborate on projects, share resources, etc.
- Ability to influence others of the benefits/importance of an idea or plan of action and to gain their support or commitment
- Knowledge of learning theory and ability to implement best practices in developmental education strategies and student success..
